God wouldn't let us destroy the earth

Via Pharyngula I read this post about how a weatherman is saying there can't be global warming because God just wouldn't allow it. Yikes! Luckily, he's just a weatherman in Kentucky, so I'm not too worried it is a super widespread belief....

Sadly, that's one I've heard before. It's a sort of pious way of sticking one's head in the sand. It's all hubris to think that humans have the sort of power to destroy God's creation, yadda yadda.

Christer had to turn down a student who wanted to do an independent study on the science of creationism yesterday. Then the kid started whining about how he feels "silenced." I kinda feel sorry for the kid, that he's been fed those lines so long by his church that he probably does think he's being silenced.

I don't see the problem with his argument. It definitely takes all the burden off of us, especially those of us who are scientists. I think I'm gonna go buy a hummer now!
