one step forward, two steps back

I was getting better so steadily! The first few days after the surgery I was tired and out of it, but everything was improvement. Sunday I became tired of being weak. It is not my normal state. I don't lay around the house all day in pajamas. Ok, sometimes I do, but it is not because that is all I have energy for, it is a choice. I am still tired, and on Sunday developed a rash on my neck, and reached my 4th day of not pooping (Here, I must thank Dooce for giving me the courage to post about pooping for all the internets). Suckage! Yesterday I went to lunch with an old grad student in my lab, and a future one who is fresh from the jungle. It was very fun, but I was sad as I was really not totally myself -- I was tired, and I know I was quieter than usual. After that I took a 2.5 hour nap, and then went to dinner at my advisor's with R and the two aforementioned students. It was very fun, but I only lasted a little over an hour, then came home, managed to watch the Apprentice and then passed out at 10. Today I have been totally exhausted and while I showered, I did not get out of my pjs. I think my two outings of yesterday did me in. And I am pooping again, but medically induced pooping is not fun, not like regular pooping.

Anyway, just wanted to whine. I am not a good patient, I am not very good at waiting to get better. I have to keep reminding myself I had freaking surgery, and shouldn't be ready to run a marathon after a few days. On the bright side, my invalid state is allowing me to site here on the couch and watch a fine Lifetime movie: Moment of Truth: A Child Too Many. Movies about surrogate mothers rule!

Poor Laurie. Being sick sucks. But you did just get a hole cut in you, and that is probably good enough reason to relax and enjoy the made for TV movies for a few more days.

Good luck with the continued pooping!
